PRODUCT CARE AND MATERIALS

We handcraft all Chao & Eero jewelry in our studio in Lahti, Finland. Our jewelry is meant to be worn and made to last. With good care, our jewelry can be enjoyed through generations.

Basic care

The jewelry should be the last you put on and the first to take off.

It is important not to spray perfumes or hair products on the jewelry, avoid household chemicals, and take off the jewelry before going into the swimming pool. We recommend washing your jewelry with lukewarm water and mild detergent after several uses to remove the natural grease of the body, lotions, or cosmetics. After washing, you need to dry the jewelry very well. You may store the jewelry in the box that it comes with, or in a small sealable plastic bag to protect against tarnishing from humidity or air impurities.

Silver and Gold Jewelry

We use recycled silver to make our jewelry. The silver is about 95% recycled, and the remaining 5% comes from Nordic mines.

Silver jewelry will tarnish/oxidize over time when exposed to salty air, chlorine, sulfur, humidity, perspiration, cosmetics, household cleaning products, and other strong chemicals. When it does, and the brownish spots or area appear, you may remove the tarnished spots with a silver cleaning cloth. For more three-dimensional pieces that are difficult to clean with a silver cleaning cloth, you may also use silver cleaning solutions sold in jewelry stores. Please follow the instruction carefully while using the cleaning solution, and rinse the jewelry very well under running water. You may also send the jewelry back to us for cleaning and maintenance with a shipping charge.

The gold we use is 100% recycled. Compared to silver, gold jewelry is easier to care for because it does not tarnish. However, it is still a good idea to avoid household bleach and cleaning products.

Pearl jewelry

We personally select all the pearls we use in our jewelry, and we order them from trusted suppliers whom we have worked with for years.

Pearl is an organic and soft material, so it needs to be treated with care. To keep your pearls in good condition, wipe them with a soft cloth after wear. To clean pearl jewelry, you may wipe the pearls gently with a piece of soft cloth and lukewarm water with mild soap. If the pearl is on silver jewelry, do not dip the pearl into silver cleaning solution because the chemical could harm the surface layer and the pearl might lose its luster.

Repair

Our jewelry is made to last.

We believe that good-quality jewelry should be repairable.

If your Chao & Eero jewelry is damaged, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will help you to maintain your beloved pieces. You may include a photo of the jewelry, so we can see its condition for repairing and estimate the cost. After that we will give you the instruction of sending the jewelry back to us.
